Philippines health hazard
Real estate boom in the Philippines is a health hazard
One billion people live in dwellings like these. Hotter temperatures and more rain will mean even more exposure to the elements. Air conditioning is of course out of the question. (The Philippines, 2002).
It is unlikely that the world can survive the consequences of Western style affluence for all. Survival will depend upon developed countries reducing their demands and greenhouse gas emissions so that the poor may have some inprovement in their lot. The assistance needed for developing countries covers the entire spectrum of living, but in the case of slum dwellings, simple replacements of housing that include the use of insulation are relevant.. Such assistance will be necessary to create a truly sustainable world.
