Burning World
The World is Burning
This picture from Singapore in 2002, leads to the question as to whether air pollution from burning rain forest, from motor vehicles and industry will engulf all the tropical cities and choke the inhabitants? The burning rainforest was far away in Indonesia.
It is now 2007, there is concern about the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, forests are a vital sink for carbon storage and determine the stability of climate through release of water vapour, yet the destruction for cash crops continues in Indonesia, the Amazon and Central Africa. Each burn increases the incidence of respiratory disease from particulate inhalation, increases the severity of flood and landslips and harms a sustainable life for local peoples.
